Seeking information on the family of Edward Wanton, who died October 16, 1716 in Rhode Island. According to the public library, he was a Quaker preacher and shipwright, and the father of two governors.

Would he be the grandfather of Susanna(h) Wanton Slocum (Mrs. Joseph Slocum) and Elizabeth Wanton Slocum (Mrs. Giles Slocum)?

I'm trying to trace the Slocum line. Up until 1979, there was always a Slocum male whose first name was Wanton. (The custom seems to have died with Wanton James Slocum, 1905-1979.) Any information on the Wanton/Slocum history would be greatly appreciated.
