East Greenwich Vital Records

Could anyone tell me who I should contact to confirm, if this is even a possibility, a early recording in one of the townships vital records books? I am seeking to confirm a wife's name that appears therein, and the documents are dated from the 1700's. Would it be the town clerk for East Greenwich or a historical society for Kent County maintaining and having access to such records?

Thanks

Sue
