Children: Charles (6-3-1749), Mary (4-5-1751), Thomas (1-20-1754), David (6-10-1756), Rufus (1-15-1758), Welthian (1-9-1760), Joseph (7-6-1762)

Parents: John Spencer (6-10-1693 in East Greenwich, RI to 6-1774 in East Greenwich, RI) and Mary Fry (6-24-1693 in E. Greenwich, Kent Co., RI to 6-30-1732 in E. Greenwich, Kent Co., RI) Married: September 13, 1716 in East Greenwich, RI
Children: Thomas (7-17-1717), Welthian (2-16-1719), Audrey (12-1-1720), John (11-10-1722), Rufus (8-21-1724), Joseph (c.1726), Charles (1-1-1728), Susannah (9-10-1729), Mercy (3-14-1731)

1. John Spencer who died in June of 1774 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island left a will and mentions his children, including Joseph.

3. Will Book A 256-258: Rufus Spencer Estate. I Rufus Spencer of the town of Watertown in the county of Jefferson and state of New York being of sound and disposing mind and (unreadable, unreadable) do herby make and declare this to be my last will and Testament as follows. First I will and direct that all my just and legal debts and funeral charges be paid by my executor herein after named. Item, I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Sally Whitney wife of Nathan Whitney of Morristown in the county of St. Lawrence her heirs and afigus forever five undivided sixteenth parts of all my estate real and personal that there shall be at the time of my death after the payment of my debts and any legacy that may be bequeathed herein. Item, I give devise and bequeath unto my son David Spencer his heirs and afigus forever eleven undivided forty eighth parts of all my estate real and personal that there shall be at the time of my death after the payment of my debts and any legacy that my bequeathed herein. Item, I give devise unto my son Christopher Spencer his heirs and afigus forever eleven undivided forty eighth parts of all my estate real and personal that these shall be at the time of my death after the payment of my debts and any legacy that my be bequeathed herein. Item, I give devise and bequeath unto my son Gardener Spencer, his heirs and afigus forever eleven undivided forty eighth parts of all my estate real and personal that there shall be at the time of my death after the payment of my debts and any legacy that may be bequeathed herein. Item, I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Anna Reys wife of Peleg Reys 2nd late of Watertown aforesaid one dollar to be paid to my executor herein after named within six months of my decease. Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Huldah Matthews wife of Asaph Matthews of Watertown aforesaid one dollar to be paid to m executor herein after named within six months after my decease. Item lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint John Adams of Watertown aforesaid Executor of this my last will and Testament and hereby revoke all of and every forever will by me made. In witness where of I the said Rufus Spencer have hereto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of May one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven. Signed sealed and delivered by the Testator Rufus Spencer to be his last will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence and in Rufus Spencer, the presence of each of other have subscribed our names as witnesses.

Jefferson County} SS. Be it remembered that on the seventh day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven personally appeared before me Benjamin Wright Surrogate of the county of Jefferson aforesaid Peleg Bouchard and Luther G. Hoyt the subscribing witnesses to the will of Rufus Spencer late of the town of Watertown in the said county of Jefferson deceased who being duly sworn did severally depose and say that Peleg saw the said Rufus Spencer decd. subscribe the (unreadable) cut. which is hereunto annexed and (unreadable) with the seal of office of the said surrogate which said (unreadable) purports to be the last will and testament of the said Rufus Spencer deceased bearing date the twenty third day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven that they heard the said Rufus Spencer at the same time declare the said (unreadable) to be his last will and testament that they subscribed their named thereto as witnesses at the request of the said Rufus Spencer. And at the time thereof the said Rufus Spencer was of sound mind of full age to execute a will and not under any restraint.
