Penny, It certainly sounds like we are relatives !!!! I was told that my grandmother, Annie Marie Rhynard Pulk( later changed to Polk) was borm in Halifax in 1878 & died in 1949 in our home in So. Portland .I was born in 1950, so never knew her.Her parents were Sara Smith & William Rhynard. Even though my grandmother Annie Marie was born in Halifax, I never knew where her parents had lived. They had a son, William Rhynard, that moved to be with his sister in Vinalhaven,Me. He was Born in 1869 & died 1935, he is buried in Vinalhaven along with my grandparents, Capt. Edward Polk & Annie Marie Rhynard Polk.My dad was born in 1900 & died in 1964.He was raised in Vinalhaven, but was adopted from family in Eastport Me.I'm trying to locate from what part of the family he was adopted from, as he never knew. Capt. Edward Pulk's parents were William Pulk & Mary Lawrence, he was from Robinstown,Me.& she was from New Brunswick. She was widowed at an early age, so I have been told, & married a man named Quinn. My grandfather Edward was born in Eastport,Me.I don't know when or where he & my grandmther were married( perhaps in Eastport). My middle name is Rhynard, after my grandmother's maiden name.I have tried for months to locate anyone with any info regarding either side of my family, as my dad has been gone so long, & he was always was so interested in his family history. Back then records were not recorded of adoptions from family members & his mom never told him of his true parents.I really appreciate all that you have done for me with this -I am so interested in learning anything I can from both the Rhynard side as well as the Pulk side. At some time (in the 1920's) Pulk was changed( at least on Vinalhaven, to Polk)I have no idea why ????I have a cousin who has always lived on the island that is thrilled that I have been able to locate some leads into our family history. Her grandfather Capt.Thomas Pulk & my grandfather Capt. Edward Pulk were brothers. My husband, Jim & I are planning a trip the end of this May to Eastport & then up the coast to Halifax to celebrate our "30th" I am trying to learn as much as possible before this time. I don't work, He is an air traffic controller here at Bangor tower. We have 6 grandchildren from our daughter & son-in-law who live here in Brewer, also. Our son lives in Texas. We have a big old house with a pool & 2 hound dogs, so that keeps me busy !!!! I'd love to hear more ---I'm just thrilled to have a contact, just think, your great grandparents are also mine !!!!!!My address is P.O.Box 3806 Brewer, Me. 04412 Pease write & I'll give you my phone #...call me collect....Thank you more that you will ever know.....Betsy
