Germany, about 1700
It has been said that "There's nothing so useful as a good idea".
Let's try this and see how useful it turns out to be.
Let's try this and see how useful it turns out to be.Tracing our Rhymes/Rimes family into Europe has not produced a lot of
hard data, in fact, mostly only hints and suggestions.

The family seems to have come from the Lower Palatinate, an area of
Germany on the Rhine River, east of Saarland. One of the main cities in
the area is Freiburg.

Across the border in Switzerland is the city of Fribourg.

members of the Rimes family live, having moved there, generations ago,
from Fribourg, Switzerland.

It's a bit of conjecture, but what if our branch of the family sailed
down the Rhine from the Palatinate to the Netherlands, caught a ship to
Philadelphia (as did a lot of others from that area) and gradually
drifted into NC, where our records begin, then into GA and MS and west.

On the other hand, other members of the Rhymes/Rimes family may have
left Switzerland moving south, and sailed for Brazil to join other
German speaking people in Novo Friburgo.

It's not a fact, it's an idea.Just how good it turns out to be will
depend upon how well we can prove or disprove it.But in the absence of
anything at all, perhaps it's better than nothing.
