Hey Jason, I really appreciate the information that you sent me.I remember hearing my father Raymond H. Roton talking about Willie, James T., and Roy. My father also served in the Navy during WW11. He was on the USS St. Paul. He never talked a lot about it but I do know that he was in the harbor in Japan, when Japan Surrendered. I also know that his ship the USS St. Paul was also the last ship to fire on Japan and also the last one to fire in VietNam years later. My father was a policeman here in Newberry for years and then a Deputy Sheriff and Served one term and part of another as the Sheriff of Newberry. County.
Daddy's brother (Buddy)Bennie Thomas Roton was killed somewhere in the South Pacific. I can never remember if it was at Okinawa or some other island. James (Pete) Roton also served in WW11. Daddy and his brothers other than Bit are all deceased now.
As far as daddys sisters, there are 3 still living. Alice Roton married Birge Vaughn first and had one son Larry. She later remarried and Larry was adopted by her second husband Tuffy Milstead. Larry Milstead married Debra McCleod, they had 3 children, Larry Junior, Darren and Leann. None of them are married yet.
Ethel Roton, married George Summer who for many years was the county coroner and a Scout Master for Troop 222 in Newberry. They had 2 sons, Buddy and Tony. Buddy married Densise Slice the first time and they had a daughter named Hope. Buddy since then divorced her and remarried but quickly got divorced again. As for Tony Summer, FORGET IT, He has had more wives than I can remember and children by all.
The 3rd living sister is Polly, She married Joseph Sanders, Their children are Susan, Faye, Brenda and they had one brother named Benny who died several years ago. He was in the Army but his death was of natural causes.
The sisters who are deceased now are : Mary who married Alton Wicker, they had one son named Barry.
Minne Mae who married Bob Werts, they lived in Saluda and had 2 girls. Bobbi and Linda. Bobbi had been married once. She has a daughter named Sydney. I never knew Bobbi's husband and off hand don't know his name.
Linda married Charles Waldrep. She has one daughter named Dana and had one son that was killed in a wreck.
Oh well I know these are just pieces but I am still looking up more information. I my self have 3 sisters. The oldest is named Sandra, she is unmarried and still lives with our mother Nancy Cornelia Roton, The next is Loretta, she married Jesus Oropeza and they have one son Jeramie. Kathy is the youngest and she first married Mark Bishop. They have one daughter together, Jennifer. They have divorced now and Kathy married Ralph Summer. Jennifer kept the Bishop name until she married Joey Long.
As far as going back, I am still trying to do that too. Because of the different spelling of our last name, the ones you mentioned and more including Rauton, Rhoden, Roughton and even Wroten. I get more confused the farther I look. In many cases all I can find in our surname research keeps coming up to Living Roton, and since I can find no mention of my grandfather in any of this, I assume he is one of those.
I am getting responses from several different people from my searches and I am trying to piece it all together. I do know that some of our relatives left South Carolin at one point when Alabama was giving away free land.
Good luck finding our roots, One man a Robert Roten, has said that we came here from England after leaving Swizterland.
Take Care
