James, Jesse, Robert Rhea & Cash
I am searching for information on a James Rhea who married Miss Cash, ca 1800, probably in Kentucky, or possibly Tennessee. They had two sons--Robert, b ca 1802 and Jesse, born 1804.Robert and Jesse were supposedly separated from their widowed mother in an unusual incident regarding a fork in the road--too long to convey here. They were then, ca 1815, apprenticed to a blacksmith named LeMasters in Maury Co., Tennessee. On the 1820 census, there is such a man in Maury Co. with several young men living with him.It is unknown what became of Robert, but Jesse went to Clark Co., Kentucky, where he met Catherine Bruce, daughter of Barnet and Luciana Lampton Bruce. The Bruce family and Jesse Rhea then traveled to Christian Co., Kentucky, where Jesse and Catherine were married.Four children were born in Christian Co., before both families moved to Cooper Co., Missouri.Catherine had three more children before she died ca 1843/44.Jesse married second Mary Jane Foster Smith, who raised his two youngest children, as well as several of her Smith own.The Bruce families moved on to Putnam and Mercer Co., Missouri, while the Jesse Rhea family stayed in Cooper Co.All used the spelling of Rhea, except my ggrandfather, James Henry, who used Ray.
For years, Rhea/Ray researchers had no clue as to who Jesse's parents might have been.A Bible record was found a couple of years ago within the family which states that his parents were James Rhea and Miss Cash, and his brother was Robert.
We researchers of the Jesse Rhea family would appreciate any leads which anyone might turn up regarding him and his family.Where did Robert go.Where did the Widow Rhea go?
