Julius Rhaesa sues telegraph co.
According to a story in the Daily Journal, Ogdensburg, NY in 1866, Julius Rhaesa won a suit against the United States Telegraph Company.His family had traveled to Yonkers, NY from Detroit, MI and he telegraphed to them to make sure they were safe. He did not receive a reply, so he traveled to NY to find them. Upon arriving in NY he discovered they had never received the telegraph, which arrived just as he was about to return to Detroit.He sued for travel expenses and the cost of the telegraph and won.
