Lionel:
My maternal grandfather was Chas. O. Reynard (Ohio). I've done little research but the name is most often said to be French and mean "fox." Other than that I don't know whether the first Reynards were Angles, Saxons, Celts, Normans? One reference I saw, can't recall where, was to a French Jew (18th century I think) named such. I hope we're not Jews. Check some Jew surname databases, though, and you'll see many spellings very close phonetically (Rennert, Renart, etc.). I shudder to think that my good old Protestant minister grandfather could have been a kike convert.
