Hi there
I am trying to find out more about the Rey family. My great grandmother was Katinka (Katharina) Rey and she was born in Halle, Germany on December 12, 1873. Her father was Prof Eugen Rey and he was professor of Natural Sciences and Astronomy and was quite famous in Halle and Leipzig. My great grandmother had a brother, Eugen, and four sisters, Margareta, Adelaide, Wanda (all born in Halle) and Anita (born in Leipzig 1877). Katinka Rey married Dr Johan Georg Gadow (educated at Vienna university) and they emigrated to the diamond fields at Kimberley in the 1890's. The family originally came from France but had to drop the 'de la' title when they fled to Germany during the French Revolution. Before that, the family came from Spain and were related to the Spanish Royal family.
