I have the book that Kevin Horsch refers to in his reply to you (#23 Rexford forum) and agree that William Hopson Rexford is the stated father of David Rexford b. in 1820 (Cincinnatus NY).
However, I am also searching for a David Rexford and thought I'd share something I've learned regarding a SIMON REXFORD with a SON, DAVID REXFORD. Spelling interchangeable with RIXFORD. I don't know yet if the following is useful to me, but maybe it will be to you. Of course, all this should be verified --
A Simon Rexford from Winchester MA served in the Revolutionary War for 7 years, enlisting at the age of 15. He suffered deafness caused by artillery fire during this time. In 1799 he settled near the mouth of Troups Creek, near the Cowanesque River in Knoxville, Tioga County NY. He is listed in the 1812 Tax Assessment of Clymer Township, which probably included Delmar Township: 80 acres, 1 horse, 2 oxen, 3 cows. Valuation $374.00 Tax $1.87. In the history of Clymer, it is stated that in 1820 Simon Rexford purchased 300 acres from a Mr. Mix, and with the help of his two sons, David and Asahel, cleared the land which they called "Delight". It was then that Simon Rexford married a widow, Mrs. Bristol, who settled in Knoxville in 1812. Simon then became stepfather to her young son, George O. Bristol who was b. 1806 Sherburne, Chenango Co., NY. In later years, Simon divided his property between David Rexford and George Bristol. Simon and his wife were buried in old Bristol Cemetery on the east side of Mixtown Hill.David might have married someone named Almira, who died in her early 20's. I might add that there is a George Rexford from Clymer who was a Civil War veteran, and my guess he's related to the folks above.
Another Simon Rixford that I have found resided (1830's-1840's) in Mansfield CT, which is where the David Rixford I seek is supposed to be from. This Simon, along with a Nathan Rixford, were in the silk mill business. Trips to that town show no vital, land or cemetery records for this David. It seems unlikely that the NY Simon & David and the CT Simon & David are one and the same, expecially since the former is buried in NY...so I keep searching!
I believe the David I seek was m. 1806 in Boston to Martha Conant, but so far unable to prove they are the parents of Sarah/Sally Rixford/Rexford b. around 1810. She m. Charles Hillman 1842 Griswold CT.(my ggg-gp)
