Are you still monitoring this website. If so, I think I have more information on my great, great grandmother Charity Rewis (abt.1853-1917).

She talked about General Sherman's march to Savannah and how bad it was for the locals. (Tattnall County was part of the area covered by Sherman's march) She also said she was born in Florida and she gave birth to her daughter in Savannah in 1875. So I agree with your earlier comment that she probably is part of the Rewis's that you have been tracking and that she traveled between southern GA and northern FL.

I believe I found her in Columbia County, Florida in the 1870 census under her married name, Charity Higgs. Her birth year was 1853. This is in line with the 1900 & 1910 census.

I found a Susan Rewis in Tattnall County, GA in the 1860 census that was born in 1853. Susan is 7 years old and living with the Cornelius Anderson family. No other Rewis's are listed near the Anderson's and I could not find reference to this Susan Rewis in any of the messages on this message board. Could this be Charity? Five houses away lives a Robert Higgs, also 7 years old. In the 1870 census, Robert Higgs is living in Columbia County, FL not to far from Charity Higgs.

Charity moves to Wisconsin about 1885 and never returns to Georgia or Florida. From the other messages on this board, most all Rewis's stayed in the GA/FL area. Charity did not. So her family ties were weaker than most.

So, my question of you is; could this Susan Rewis be my Charity Rewis or do you have a record of this Susan? And did she stay in the GA/FL area?
