I find your letters very interesting and they sure do pose another question?How many Micajah Revels were born in 1804?
I have been working on my brother-in-law's supposed-ancestors, Micajah Revels, born 1804 in GA according to notes passed down to us.He was married to Mourning Jacobs. He is supposed to have been the son of Stephen Revels and Delila Bullard. The list of Stephen's children seems to go like this:
Henry, Anna, John, William and Micajah.
Our info comes from a diary of Effie (Revels) Delaney's done many years ago and passed down.She stated that in 1820 he was living 40 miles north of Macon, Ga (upper Alabama).His two brothers, Henry and John owned slaves, there was bad blood between them and he (Micajah) and his family left that area and went to Robertson Co, NC (evidently it was Robeson Co, NC).About 1830 he moved to Fayette Co, Ga and about 1833-1834 he entered Indiana at Evansville, Vanderburgh Co, and traveled on to Orange and Hamilton counties.He converted to Methodism and became a preacher.About 1854, he moved to Wisconsin between Ontario and Hillsboro with a group of black freedmen, white and Cherokee people.His children married into the Walden and Weaver families who went to Marion, Indiana.One Minnie Revels (how related?) married to Thomas Shivers, a black man (born 1854 and died in 1958 in Hayward, Alameda, Calif (confirmed by Social Security records) and they went to Lacrosse, Wisc.He was supposed to have been a large land-owner.
One of Micajah's sons was John Wesley (Rev.) Revels, born 7 April 1844 in In, died 1914 Stone Co, Mo, married Tempea C. McCord (b.23 Dec 1851, d 1914 Stone Co, Mo also) on 16 March 1865 in Balltown, Vernon Co, Mo. We have copy of their Bible with inscriptions of their births, marriages and list of children.The big question has been is this:Is the child listed as Maud D. May, born 22 Feb? 1888 their daughter, a grand-daughter or foster child?My brother-in-law's mother was daughter of the Maud May who married James Newton "Newt" Johnson.She claimed kin to the Revels as well as other families in northeast Cherokee history that don't fit into this Revels family from all appearances.
These are notes and records passed down to us.
What I have found online:
a. Scanned images of the 1850 census, Howard Co, Ind, Harrison Twp, House 146, Micajah, Mornin and family.In it, Micajah states that he was born in NC;
b. Marriages of Orange Co, Ind: Delana Revels to Ishmael Roberts, 12 Aug 1844 (supposed to be Micajah's dau); and, Edmund Revels to Lucy Ann Roberts, 1 April 1847 (the one listed at home with his parents in 1850?).
c:LDS marriages online lists:Micajah Revels and Mourning Jacobs married 22 Nov 1825 in Robeson Co, NC.
d:Land records in Badax Co (later Vernon co) for Micajah and various others of the family).If anyone can help us straighten out this family it would be greatly appreciated.
