In the mid-1800's the Renz family of Baden, Baden immigrated to the area of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. Brothers were; Raphael, Carl, Charles (?Carolus), Joseph, John and Franz Anton; sister, Frederika. Their Mother, Theresia (or Elizabeth?) also came to New York with one of her sons to live out the remainder of her life. Her husband and Father of the children was, Franz Joseph Renz. He died in Baden, Baden in 1830. A, Theresia Rentz is listed on the ships list of the 'St. Denis',age 60, with the family group of Charles and Elsie Rentz and a child of age 1 arrival list, New York, on 22 Nov. 1850.

In 1860 Theresia, age 73, is listed in the household of Raphael Rens along with the wife of Raphael, Clementine and a 9 year old, Josephine (daughter of John?. Also in the house are Lidia Leahy age 10- and Robert F. Coesley Pennell. (An interesting story about Robert comes out in the 1880's)

Nothing shows up about Theresia Renz after the 1860 Census.

It is possible that she was buried in Union Cemetery, Union St, Williamsburg(no longer in existance). All graves were moved in 1897 to another cemetery.

I would like to learn more about these families. Franz Anton moved on the Minnesota in 1851, Raphael remained in Williamsburg, at various addresses on Meserole Street that he owned. I have no records of the others.

It would be rewarding to make contact with these families and their descendants, wherever they ended up.

Nancy,
Gr-grand-daughter of Franz Anton Renz.
