Marion Renwick b. 1660 Dumfries d. 1732 New Jersey (2)
I am descended from Marion Renwick, born in 1660 in Dumfries, Scotland. She was one of the "Cameronians," a group of Presbyterians persecuted during the "Killing Years," 1684-85.According to family tradition she and other members of this group were transported to America by the English government. The ship arrived in Perth Amboy New Jersey. She married a man named Adam Hude after her arrival.
I am trying to determine on which ship she arrived. It could have been the Henry & Francis which was used to transport Cameronian prisoners and arrived in Perth Amboy in 1685 after a horrible voyage. There is a family tradition, however, that she arrived on a ship called the Caledonia which then sank off the coast.A ship called the Caledonia did arrive in Perth Amboy in 1715 but presumably it was not transporting Cameronian prisoners.
I would also like to learn if she was related to James Renwick, one of the leaders of the Cameronians, who was born in Dumfries in 1662, executed in 1688, who is still regarded by some as a saintly martyr but who was handled roughly by Sir Walter Scott if, as some think, he was the model for Ephraim MacBriar in the novel Old Mortality.
Can anyone help with this?
