Ambrose Remer (MN)

My Grandfather was Ben Remer, who lived in Brooten and was a brother to Ambrose.Amy Bruder, who I believe lives in the Long Prairie area did a great deal of geneology work and put together a family tree back in 1985.
I'm sure that you already know that the Remers and Bruders in the Long Prairie area are all related going way back.In 1994 I traveled to Washington DC and visited the National Archives and found the following:
The ship Bohemia arrived in Baltimore on 4/1/1892.The passengers disembarked the next day.John Remer is listed as being 27, his wife Augusta (Bruder) was 30, Lucia (Lucy) their daughter was 1.Their home town is listed as Karmentzin in Germany.John and Augusta were Ambrose Remer's father and mother.
John Bruder is listed as 40, his wife Augusta (Remer) was 33, Clement was 4 and Mary was 2.Also, Peter Bruder was with them and he was 65.Their home town is listed as Klein Yagel or Klein Vogel. These are hand written records and the hand writing is a bit hard to decipher.
Since that time I have been unable to locate either of those towns on the sources available to me.If you find out where they are located, please let me know.
Also, I went to the Todd County Recorders office to research the real estate records. My father had always maintained that John Remer had never owned land. That was not the case. The 1906 Todd County Plat book shows that John Remer owned the South 1/2 of the Southwest 1/4 of Section 35 in Reynolds Township approximately 1 mile south and west of McCarrahan Lake.John and Augusta had bought the property on 8/2/1893.It is apparent from the real estate records that he just couldn't make enough to get the mortgage paid off.Ambrose was born on 6/13/1894 and my grandfather, Ben was born on 9/16/1901.Augusta passed away on 5/22/1903.The oldest child, Lucy, passed away on 11/29/1910 at age 18.I would assume that she bore the brunt of raising the younger children after her mother died, causing her a great deal of stress. It appears that John couldn't pay the mortgage that came due in 1911 and left that farm that year.I believe that for a time they lived by Westport. From there they moved to a farm northeast of Brooten, which is currently owned by Arden Hanson. It was at this farm that John Remer had his final auction.
I do hope that this is some help to you.
