Hi Robyn,
We are cousins (add yourself to the list of the burgeoning Reitenauers!)
Your Johannes Sr. (1690) is indeed the son of Nicholas (Claus) born 1650. Yes, he has tons of names for his one and only wife. There were several Nicholas', which complicate things, also. You will note that at times, his wife is named: Warzenluft, Lufidach, etc. I think Windstein may be the correct answer, though Warzenluft is the name on my old genealogy, which I "inherited" from 1957, done by the family historian Carl Sust, now deceased. Also note that Catherine Cassel (also the name I have) is probably Maria "Catherine" Lehnhart. Their son was Johannes Jr. who married Eliz. Herb, and they are my direct line. Two of their children were Frederick Reitenauer (m. Catherine Muthard) and Jacob Reitenauer (m. Anna Margaret Benfield). Jacob is my line, into Rebecca Reitenauer (b. 1798). Find the website "Ancestors are Forever" by Mel Ridenour (it is 1000 pages, so don't try to print it out), to find more information.
