Mary Adelaide Reinhard - News Journal, The - (Jan/13/2005) Mary Adelaide REINHARD Mary Adelaide Reinhard Wife of Dr. John J. Reinhard died January 12, 2005. She was a resident of Stonegates in Greenville, DE and Prouts Neck, ME. She had lived in DE for 17 years, and before that she resided for 36 years in Salem County, NJ. She had been on the board of the Visiting Nurse Association of Delaware, president of the Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia, and on the Board of Women Visitors of the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of the State of Delaware, the Junior League of Wilmington, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, and Friends of Winterthur. She was also a Stephen Minister of Christ Church Christiana Hundred, Greenville. Born Mary Adelaide Rozelle in 1920 in Scranton, PA, she moved to Cape Elizabeth, ME at the age of 5 when her father, Frederick Chase Rozelle, became the head of Equitable Life Insurance Company's New England operations. She graduated from the Waynfleet School in Portland, ME and from Smith College in Northampton, MA in 1942. After college, she joined IBM as a systems service analyst and moved to Manhattan. In 1945, she joined the International Red Cross and was sent to the Philippines, where she met her future husband, who was then an army doctor preparing for the invasion of Japan. They married after returning to the U.S. in 1946 and moved to Cleveland, OH, where Dr. Reinhard was a surgical fellow at the Cleveland Clinic. Mrs. Reinhard worked as an IBM systems analyst for the Department of the Navy, overseeing payroll. One of the projects she participated in was determining a back-up site for all Navy payroll records, so that all naval personnel would be paid in the event of an atom bomb falling on the United States. The Reinhards lived for 36 years on a farm in Salem County, NJ, which she turned into a highly regarded horticultural site visited by many garden tours. She and Dr. Reinhard were instrumental in founding Saint John's Day School, initially in Salem, which later became Woodland Country Day School in Jericho, NJ. She was also one of the founders of the Salem Antique Show and the Salem Garden Club. She was on the board of the Visiting Homemakers of Salem County. She is survived by her husband; 3 children, Elizabeth of Berwyn, PA, Brooks of West Chester, PA and James of Hockessin, DE; 4 grandchildren; and her brother, Frederick Chase Rozelle, Jr. of Center Sandwich, NH. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 15, 2005, at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, Buck Road East, Greenville.
