Reading your post gave me a bit of a jolt, my grandmother was named Berta Reiner, not a common name and I've never heard of another one (anglicized to Bertha or not). However, she died in March of 1977 in NYC at the age of 77 and I don't think she even knew where North Dakota was, but still, interesting.
I don't have much information on my family except that my grandfather, Max Reiner, was from a family of clock makers in Chenowitz, Romania (I know, it's in the Ukraine now and there are at least 5 different spellings for the name of the town). He had the mis-fortune of emigrating to Vienna, Austria during the late 1930's, in retrospect, not a smart move for a Jew at this time. He was believed to have perished in the 1940's during the holocaust. My father, Eric, and his mother, Bertha, came to this country as war refugees, so it's not like they had a lot of records with them. A know a few personal anecdotes more than I've listed here, but the information is rather sketchy.
If you, or anyone else on this list, spots a connection, please e-mail me and let me know what you know and I'll be happy to share what little more I have to tell. Thanks!
