Charles M. Reimer
SPRINGFIELD - Charles M. Reimer, 88, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Quincy Veteran's Home in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born October 28, 1922 in Grove City, IL. the son of Harry and Elizabeth (Kruckeberg) Reimer. He later married Camilla Green in Hillsboro, IL. on September 16, 1950.
Charles proudly served in the United States Army and was a WWII Veteran in the 8th Armored Division. He served in the European Theater as a tank commander and was honorably discharged with the Rank of Captain. He received the Silver Star and the Bronze Star during his service.
He graduated from the University of Illinois in Agriculture and worked as a full time farmer for many years; he retired and worked as a Rural Farm Appraiser for Meyers Land Services. He was a co-founder and longtime director of the Sangamon County Fair, one of five founding directors of the Sangamon County Soil and Water Conservation District, a recipient of the first Springfield Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer award in 1955, eighteen year director of the Decatur Farm Credit Association, a current member and past director of the Sangamon County Farm Bureau, member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and the Illinois Chapter of Farm-House Fraternity. He was also a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Springfield where he has served on the Church council as a founding member of Our Savior's Lutheran School Board. He was a life member of VFW Post 755 and a member of the American Legion Post 759.
Charles is survived by his wife Camilla, their three children Elizabeth Reimer of Richardson, TX., Charles (Kathleen) Reimer II of Springfield, Susan Smith (Mark DeVolder) of Chatham, granddaughter Shannon Smith of Chatham, Step granddaughters Karen and Michelle and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son David, daughter Sally Ann Davis in 2000, sister and brother in law Harriett and Tom Maybury.
