I am searching for the parents of James Austin (aka Austin) REID.
From the 1880 Rains County, Texas (TX) census, I find James Austin Reid/Reed with wife Rebecca Lee Gary. They have one child, Leonidas Polk Reid. James is listed on the census as J.A. Reed. Rebecca is listed on the census as R. Reed and their son, Leonidas is listed as Lee Reed.
Later on in Rains County, Texas, Austin (J.A.) marries Virginia Taylor Gary. She is the sister of Rebecca Lee Gary, J.A. (or Austin's)first wife. The date of their marriage is July 19, 1884, just 4 years after the 1880 Rains County, Texas census.
I don't know what happened to Rebecca Lee Gary Reid (Reed). Were they divorced? Did she die? I cannot figure this out.
When I started my genealogical research for the Reid/Gary line that my husband descends from, I got information from his aunt.
My husband's aunt said that there were other children for James Austin Reid and Rebecca Lee Gary. They were Viola Reid & James Calbert Reid.
After looking at the census records in 1880 and Lee or Leonidas is the only child listed, I am wondering if Viola and James were half siblings of Leonidas Polk Reid whose mother was Rebecca Lee Gary.
Could Viola & James Calbert Reid be the offspring of James Austin Reid/Reed and his second wife, Virginia Taylor Gary?
Any help on this family line would be greatly appreciated.
