I'm looking for John Reed/Read/Reid born ca 1745-55. I descend through his daughter Mary born ca 1777 in Jefferson Co., KY who married Henry Batman/Bateman, son of John.
There was an Isaac Batman living in the same area who married Eleanor Reed. She was probably a sister to my Mary Reed.
I found a listing from the Family Tree Maker CD called "Early West Virginia Settlers, West Virginians in the American Revolution."
"Read, John Service - Virginia VA. No. 23450 No. S. 15961
Born in Prince Edward County, VA in 1745 and enlisted in 1777 in West Augusta, now Harrison Co., VA, Served as a private under Capt. Lowther in the Virginia Regiment commanded by Colonel Duvall. Engaged in the Indian Wars and as a frontier guard. Rceived pension in Harrison Co. in 1834. Supporting data was submitted by John Davis, John Summerville, Sotha Hickman and Christopher Nutter."
I also have a Hickman line. I have no idea if that is relevant to finding John Reed.
I found another John Read born ca 1746 who was the son of Joseph Read/Reed/Reid and Barbara Walker.
There was a John Reed son of Jeremiah Reed but I think he was born too late.
Does anyone have any ideas about who my John Reed might have been?
