I was interested to see the name William Harvey Reid in your posting. My Reids came to Alabama from Laurens Co., SC in the 1840s. My ancestor, John A. Reid (later spelled Reed) was born in 1834 and was only a child when he moved, I believe with his sister Elizabeth and her husband John Daniel Brackner, a blacksmith.Apparently their grandmother Mary Reid and a sister Mary, (two years older than John) moved also.I have no record of their parents and tend to think that something tragic happened to them since they are not on the 1850 Blount Co., AL census with the rest of the family.Family tradition also says John came to Alabama "kicking and screaming,"making me think he did not want to leave SC for some reason.Back to the name William Harvey -- my GGrandfather was Harvey Gilbert Reed, son of John A. Reed. While John and William are common names, Harvey is less common and I thought we might have a connection.
