William Reid, Gunsmith of Spartanburg, SC
Especially for [email protected] - unable to get through to you by e-mail and wanted to discuss your Reid connections..My direct ancestors are William Marion Green
md. to Lucelia (Celia, Cely, Seely, etc) Dillard. They migrated to Pontotoc Co., MS in 1858 from Spartanburg Co., SC and have had no success in finding parents/siblings of William Marion, have done better with Celia's background.
In searching Spartanburg, SC records, find that the 1850
census of this area shows HH No. 1896 contains WILLIAM REED, age 82 "Gunsmith$2500.00 (no birthplace shown) as
Head of Household, with Jane Tollison, age 46, Catherine, age 57, William age 19 *farmer), and Nancy age 18 (no bp
showing for any of the above). There were other GREEN families censused closer to your William Reid (Reed) than
my WM/Celia, who were in HH No. 2157, however, no success to date in connecting them with mine, although have done better with GGGrandmother, Celia. .
Under date of October 26, 1878. William Marion and Lucelia
Dillard Green made affidavit on behalf of MARTHA PERRY REID in support of her application for pension on behalf of her
deceased husband, WILLIAM REID. Within the application is
stated that William and Martha Perry Reid were married in the year 1818 and that these Greens had known them since that time, having visited in their home many times. That
said William Reid and wife, Martha removed from the State of
South Carolina about the year of 1844, that these Affiants
removed from SC in 1858 and upon arrival in Pontotoc County, MS found WILLIAM REID AND MARTHA still living together as man and wife...that William Reid departed this life some time in 1873 in Pontotoc Co., MS and that Martha was never remarried.
I hope that this is helpful to someone connected to this Reid family and that some kind soul will be able to help me with my WILLIAM MARION GREEN (BORN 1802 SC, both parents born VA).
