My father was Asa Lafayette Reese from Watauga County, N. C.
His cousin, a brother of Carroll Reece (from East Tennessee) was also named Lafayette, he was in Tampa, FL, the last we heard of him. Lafayette's brother was Millard Reece of Chattanooga, TN. Another brother was Asa Reece also in FL. The information we have is that these Reeses are decended from Valentine Reese who came to N. C. from Germany in 1750. John Reese b. 1770, d. 1840 (m. Sarah Eggers) was a son of Valentine. John had 10 children.
His son Hiram b. 1798 N.C. m. Rhoda Smith. Their son Asa b.1820 d. 1898. Asa married Catherine Wagner and they had 10 children (Mary b. 1845, Rachel Martha b. 1847 d. 1892, Joseph J. Thaddeus b. 1849 d. 1910 m. 1880 Margaret Naomi Wagner, Celia b. 1854 d. 1910 m. John Alfred Shoun in 1873, Wilburn Finley b. 1856 d. 1930 m. Melissa C. Smith (my grandparents)in 1884, Sylvania Deborah b. 1859 d. 1907 m. Albert Cole in 1878, William Marion b. 1861 died single, Daniel Boone b. 1864 d. 1928 in TN m. Eliza Wilson in 1889, Sarah Ollie b. 1868 m. John E. Madron in 1883.
