Born January 9, 1909 in Chico, CA., the oldest child of Daisy Reel and Frank S. Seiler. On April 28, 2008, at the age of 99, Bernice passed from this life in Sacramento, CA. Her husband, Cornelius "Duke" Canavan died in 1958. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Bertine Rogers, Frank J Seiler, Lois Seiler, Lloyd Seiler and Laura Tatum. She is survived by her only child, Pat (Jerry) De Bruyn-Laumer and step-daughter, Frances Rhodes; brother, Ivan (Thelma) Seiler; granddaughters, Therese (Rand) Colwell, Barbara (Carlos) Valdez, Sharon (Bob) Greene and Peggy Bartlein; great-grandchildren, Sean, Brian, Jesse and Holly. Bernice is also survived by Deborah Seiler, Bill Seiler and several other nieces and nephews. Bernice lived for 92 years in Chico before moving to a Sacramento retirement home in 2001. Her life was one of service. Among the many volunteer endeavors she pursued, she was most dedicated to the Chico Gleaners. She enjoyed life by traveling, bowling, playing cards and square dancing. In 1984 Bernice was selected Chico Senior Woman of the Year. The family wishes to thank Maria Apuya, her family and staff at Eastern Manor for their loving care. A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 5057 Cottage Way, Carmichael, CA. at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2008. ln lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chico Gleaners, PO Box 1323, Chico, CA. 95928 or a charity of your choice.
