Notes for FRANCES ELLEN WILLIAMS:
A GOOD CITIZEN GOES IN ANSWER TO CALL
Nathan J Enochs dies at his home with hemorrhage of brain after a brief illness, saturday.
WAS A USEFUL CITIZEN TO ALL
A useful life was suddenly terminated Saturday evening at 8:30 when Nathan J Enochs died at his home 5 miles east of Huntingdon of hemorrhage of the brain.
The deceased was 49 years 4 months and 1 day of age. At the age of 10 he joined the ME Church, South, at Mt Zion and was a consistent member for nearly forty years, always taking an active part in the welfard of the church.
The deceased was married to miss Fannie Williams, and three children, Onus, Kelly, and Mis Mary Enochs, were the fruits of the union, who with the wife survive the deceased.
The interment was at Humbles graveyard, Monday. The funeral was largely attended. Citizens from all parts of the county were in attendance. The Buena Vista school attended in a body.
The fuenral services were conducted by Rev TN Wilkes, pastor of the church at Mt Zion, assisted by Rev AN Goforth, pastor of the church at Huntingdon. After "Rock of Ages" (a favorite song of the deceased) and other songs were sung, the preachers made short talks of the life and death of the deceased. After the services, those who had come to pay their respects were permitted to view all mortality of NJ Enochs, and the casket covered with flowers, was borne to the churchyard and interred.
Huntindon was well represented at the funeral. The Farmers State Bank, of which the deceased was one of the directors, was closed during the services, and the Bank of Huntingdon joined in paying respect by closing its bank doors for the same period.
Mr Enochs had many friends and was highly esteemed by our entire citizenship. He was amember of the quarterly court for 18 years, and was also a member of the County board of Education for serveral years. For a number of years he was a teacher in the Buena Vista High School. He loved boys and girls and took an interest in their welfare.
By his daily life, he wrote his "In Memoriam". He was a clean, upright Christian gentleman, an upstanding man, a consistent church member -- all, that goes to make up a good citizen.
It matters not whether his death endowed his family with lands and gold, he left them a goodly heritage by the story of his life.
