I am still seeking information on my maternal side of Russells, my gr-gr-grandfather's family. My grandfather spoke of this feud in the family where brothers left and went their separate ways taking the name of Reed, but our family never knew the reason. My gr-gr-grandfather John Russell married Polly Reid in Clay Co.KY. He and Polly were living in Clay County KY with a Martin or Matthew Russell in 1860 census. Martin is 60 and John 23 and Polly 16. In the 1870 Clay County census they are listed still in Clay County, but Martin is not listed and they have 3 children. Later the family is in 1880 Jackson Co. KY census with same children, plus more. I have posted a picture of John and whom we believe to be Polly, although he was married 2 more times we believe, on Ancientfaces.com and on the Jackson Co. KY website. On his death certificate it lists Press and Lizzie Russell as his parents from Tennessee. This may be Preston Reed. John's picture has been compared to Andrew Jackson Reed(Russell) and they are very similar. I have had contact with the Reeds of Claiborne Co. TN who are familiar with the Russell/Reed feud and agree that my John Russell must be connected to them. Looking forward to any information concerning John and his ancestors.
