Hi Richard,

Yes, Christian REEB a.k.a. Christian Rape was son of Johann Theobald REEB born 1769 in Keskastel, then property of Nassau-Weilburg. This is now in the north-eastern part of France usually referred to as Alsace. Although, I am not a descendant of your Christian or even of Theobald, I have been working the genealogy of their branch of the REEB family almost as long as my own. In fact I have one very large file devoted to what I call the Keskastel REEBS. The relation to my early REEB ancestors is not known, however in the earliest records of both branches...your Reebs and my Reebs were witnesses at the baptisms of each other's infants. Your earliest known ancestor which records still exist for was a Heinrich REEB born about 1602. My earliest known ancestor was also a Heinrich, however this Heinrich Reeb was deceased before 6 Dec. 1642 when my ancestor, Niclass Reeb married in the town of Bockenheim. Niclass's marriage record stated that he was son of Heinrich REEB deceased at Keskastel. I believe, but cannot prove that your Heinrich was an older brother of my Niclass. I suggest that you might want to subscribe to REEB-ROOTS-L-request@rootsweb.com. Send e-mail to that and enter only the word "subscribe" without the quotation marks. John V. Reeb
