I would like to suggest that during the time you mention there was not one country bearing the name of Germany. That did not happen until the 1870s. Instead, there were many lands who were German, meaning they were not yet unified into one country. That happened in 1871, when the Prussians caused those countries to be united into one country. So I think if you want to know about your Anna Maria who married a Philipp Karcher then you will possible receive better answers if you provide the exact area of Europe where the language was German. I know of one Reeb woman who married a Philip Karcher but she was an Anna Margaretha Reeb not Maria. Karriker or sometime Carriker is an anglization of the name Karcher. So it seems since you give that spelling your Anna Maria came to America. Am I correct?
