Joe Eddleman, I am sorry but you definately have got some information incorrect about our ancestors. The story that Peter Rape who made his last will & testament in 1787 was son of a Peter Rapp who arrived on ship St. Andrew's Galley was proven to be completely unfounded before the book THE RAPE FAMILY TREE was published in 1982. Mary Docia Rape like your ancestor John Rape were descendants of Peter Rape through his son Gustavus Rape. Peter, the father of Gustavus was in fact Johann Peter REEB who arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship HALIFAX in 1752. After completing the research which was given to Nell Taylor Norvell who then published it in THE RAPE FAMILY TREE, my research was continued into Europe. Three years and about 2 months after the European research was started...we did find records of our ancestors in Europe. My book which gave the European ancestry of the REEB family back to 1642 also contains the first two generations in America. The story that Peter RAPP born 1707 etc. was our ancestor was definately incorrect and to claim him as our will have to some day deal with his true descendants who do exist...but they are not us. Your statement that Rapp, Reeb, and Rape seem to originate from the same family is also incorrect. Rape is the German pronunciation for the name spelled in German as REEB. Our name evolved to RAPE from REEB due to pronunciation. Some Rapes did change their name to RAPP and RAPPE and many other spellings to excape the negative connotation of the word rape...however anyway you look at it the original name was REEB.
