Nancy Wolf had alerted me to records at the Nelson County Courthouse in the past week. Also Nicole (unknown) who runs the Redmon DNA study had sent transcriptions of records in Nelson County, but suggested these were all secondary sources.(More about the St. Catharine Records later.)
I transcribed only abstracts of the deeds, I did not copy the deeds myself on this day.I will try to list these in chronological order.
Deed Book 17, p. 117-118
24 April 1826
William Redman and Ann Redman, his wife, of Nelson County to
1. Thomas Redmond
2. William Redmond, Jr.
3. John Redmond
4. George Redmond
“sons of William Redmond, and also their heirs”,....for the natural love and affection he the William Redmond holds for his sons, (names repeated)....and for better support and maintenance of them, (names repeated) three tracts of land on the north side of the Rolling Fork River, and situate on waters of Cain Run, containing in all 272 acres.
William Redmond of the first part to keep possession as long as he lives for his home and to support his family...”for remainder of his life and at his death his said sons to take possession.
Ann Redmond was privily examined by deputy clerk Thos. Grayson, and deed recorded 23 June 1826
Deed Book 21, p. 260
21 Feb 1837
George Redmon (John in first line, but the rest of deed is recorded as George and then his name is recorded as person signing it with his mark, along with his wife, Eliza., of Perry Cou., IN to William Redmond of Nelson County for $150 paid by William to George, all Georges’ interest in 3 tracts or parcels of land, (it is recorded in this deed as being 250 ac. more or less), being some lands “deeded to Thomas, William C. Redmond [sic], John Redmond and myself by our father William Redmon”, my interest being 1/4.
Recorded 23 March 1837 by Nathl. Wickliff, Clerk of Nelson Co. Ct.Eliza was privily examined and released her dower.
Deed Book 21, p. 355
19 August 1837
William Redmond to Joseph Nevitt , a piece or part of land where William now lives on waters of Cane Run, adjoining corner of Alexander Burch and William Redman. No mention of his deed of gift in this and I made only this note
Deed Book 22, p. 322
13 April 1839
Thomas Redman and Lucinda his wife, of Hardin Co., KY and
John Redman and Nancy his wife, of Meade Co., KY
to
Joseph Nevitt of Nelson County for $505 dollars, land on Cane Run a small branch of Rolling Fork adjoining the lands of Norris, Nevitt and others.......unfortunately, I did not copy the acreage sold.
Mentions William Redman’s original line or corner with “original channel of Cain Creek (both spellings, Cane and Cain seen)
Certificates recorded from both William Fairleigh, clerk of Meade County Court and Samuel Haycraft’s deputy DC.D. Poston, of Hardin County Ct.
I was very interested in this deed as it seems to show the connection of our own line, William C. Redmon, who raised his family partly in LaRue County, to the Meade County Redmon family that settled in St. Martins’ area near present day Flaherty.
Meade County 1850 Census (Shelly Sim’s abstract book, publ. by ATHS, 1984) shows:
John L. Redman, 43, b. in KY with wife Nancy with seven children. They are the only Redman family in Meade County in 1850.The children were listed as: James M., 16; George C., aged 14; William B., aged 12; Thomas A., aged16 (in St. Martins’ 1853 census done by Father Coomes, Thomas T. is listed as age 13); John J., 7; (in St. Martins’ census, there are two other children listed, Charles W. , aged 9 and Ann D., aged 5)Lydia A., 3; and Jefferson, Wonder where these children were in the 1850 census.I’ll need to check Ancestry. In St. Patrick’s records before 1848 when the church was built at Flaherty, are five records for this family.
John Redmond, aged 35 bapt. 4 Oct. 1842
William Benedict Redmon bapt. 2 Mar 1838, s/o John Redmon and Nancy ____
John Jasper Redmond, bapt. 27 Feb 1842, s/o John Redmond and Ann Thompson
Chas. Washington Redmon, bapt. 28 Apr. 1844, s/o John Redmon and Ann Thompson
Lyde Ann Elizabeth Redmon, bapt. 22 Apr. 1847, d/o John Redmon and Nancy Thompson.
On this day, I cannot find my St. Martin’s records, I have done some work there on this family.I will find it eventually.
There were other deeds in Nelson County in 1860's, but wonder if these were children of one of the Redmon boys.Especially William Redmon and Nancy his wife to Richard W. Nevitt, one of heirs of Joseph Nevitt, Book 31, p. 634, 4 July 1860 in which it referrs to deed that was not made out, but some of the calls match the one in the Book 22, p. 322 deed that was recorded.May be the Nevitts lost the original deed and a hurried search at courthouse didn’t reveal it then.
Questions: Is Thomas Redmon who died in 1798 and whose will is recorded in Hardin County, Ky the father of William and grandfather of the four Redmon boys, sons of William in Nelson County? The executor was William Redman and Marget Redman.I have not seen this, only an abstract in Mary Jo Jones Abstracts of Hardin County Wills. It mentions debts to Thomas Redmon from people in Nelson County. He does not list children in his will.I need to read this.Later an orphan is listed–John Redman, and then later a daughter.I will need to get into Hardin County wills and deeds.
The St. Catharine Church Records for New Haven, Nelson County, Ky are on line.
I discovered this 31 August while in the library in Bardstown. They were posted by Cecilia E. Brown on rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/ul/data/ky+indext461556960012+F.These were downloaded and printed and are contained in a binder at Bardstown.I checked all those that Nicole had sent me, she was very precise in her notations to me.No more could be found. This listing ended in 1856 with the end of Book 2, Baptisms.
