Obit: Hilda E. (Redman) Gray b.1907 Hamden, CT
PORTSMOUTH, NH - Mrs. Hilda E. (Redman) Gray, 97, of 346 Pleasant St., died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005.
She was born in Hamden, Conn., on Aug. 12, 1907, the daughter of Thomas and Edith E. (Hart) Redman. In 1917, she moved to Cheshire, Conn., and attended schools in Southington, Conn.
She was a graduate of Hill House in New Haven, Conn., and Margaret Farnstock School of Nursing and post graduate from New York City.
She married her husband, Dr. Frederick S. Gray Sr., in 1932 on her birthday in Cheshire.
She attended the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth and was a volunteer in the Thrift Shop. She was an active volunteer at the Strawbery Banke Gift Shop; Portsmouth Hospital Snack Bar; Little Harbor School Library; NH Blood Bank; a former member and Past Board member of Governor Warner House Association and a former member of the Portsmouth Hospital Guild. She was a life member of the Portsmouth Yacht Club.
Survivors include her son, Frederick S. "Ted" Gray, Jr. of Portsmouth; daughter, Glennis Kidd of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren, Frederick S. Gray III of New Castle, Justin R. Gray and his wife, Jodi Gray, of Kittery, Maine, and Elizabeth Gladwin of Christiansburg, Va.; one great-grandson, Mason J. Gray of Kittery; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the North Church Parish House, 355 Spinney Road, Portsmouth, N.H., Thursday at 11 a.m. Family flowers only.
