I have traced my Reedhead family back to 1812 in a marriage register in Heworth. William Reedhead married Dorothy Elliot at that time. Previous to that I think they were in Jarrow parish and I think his father may have been John who married Elizabeth Hull in 1782. I still need to order the appropriate MF to verify this. Would your Barbara have had a brother named John?
Although the name has changed over time, it has most consistently been Reedhead rather than Redhead, which is why your post caught my eye.
