Hi Susan
My first ancester to come from Rothbury moved to the Newcastle area before 1796 and he married a girl from Corbridge on the Tyne valley however Morpeth is between Rothbury and Newcastle. I would think there is a link somewear as all the Redheads from Rothbury seem to be joiners in some way, and the redheads from County Durham tend to be miners.
I canot find anything to help you at the moment but I will keep your message on file
