Hello again Bev

My father was born in Fenton (One of the Towns that Arnold Bennett missed)on 13th April, 1900. All the Redfern's were born in Albert Road (House still there) I can't remember if Uncle George or Auntie Lil was the eldest but I think there was about 10 years between all of them. Uncle Cyril was the youngest and he died in his 60's. Uncle George, Auntie Lil and Auntie Kate were in their 80's. I would therefore say that George. Lil, Kate and Charles were all born before 1900 and probably in the 1890's Charles was in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders during the first World War and he became one of the 'Blck and Tans' in Ireland in the 1920's before going to Canada where he married. It is rumoured that the Mounties got him whilst he was running bootleg booze but I don't know if that is true or not. His daughter Kate comes over each year and I really must ask her. My father (Harry) enlisted in the Coldstream Guards in the First World War at the age of 16 (He lied about his age)
He also went to Canada in the 1920's following the General Strike of 1926 when he worked on Charles's ranch up in British Columbia. Lil was a Schoolteacher. It is thought that my grandfather's or maybe it was my grandmother's parents came from the Derbyshire or Burton area. I am trying to find this out.......Keep in touch....Love JR
