Hi Jane,
I saw your message about Redferns in Ireland. My gggrandfather James Bowman came to Canada from Ireland in 1825. His parents, Benjamin Bowman and Margaret Redfern lived in a town called Magherafelt in Conty Derry, about 30 miles northwest of Belfast. I have found several Bowman/Redfern marriages in the same small town. I don't know if there would be any connection. Was your Redfern family Presbyterian? It is so hard to find any records before 1800 in Ireland.

Jim Bowman
Waterloo, Ontario
