This is a followup. Sorry it took so long. Reddick, Illinois, was not named after a railroad worker who was popular with the people there. It is a story told for a hundred years in town, even by local historians. It is not true. The town was named 2 years before the railroad was built. It could not have been named for a man who would not arrive for another 2 years. It most likely was named for William Reddick, a state representative who passed through there on his way from Ottawa to Kankakee, where he sat on the board of the state asylum.
