RADICK > READICK > READDICK > REDDICK in Georgia.
Hello All,
The following is a sequence of posts and exchanges regarding probable
Salzburgher families settling in Colonial Georgia and their name changes
over time. These names have been RADICK > READICK >
READDICK > REDDICK, apparently.
I sincerely hope that someone else other than the correspondents (below)
can find some of this information to be of some use in their
geneological course of discovery.

Hello All,
The line below lists the marriage of Catherine READICK to Simon Lewis
BEXLEY on October 9, 1810.Casper READICK of Liberty County, Georgia
was the father of the bride.
Could this READICK line be related to the READDICK / REDDICK line found
in Camden County, GA with Peter READDICK, born circa 1790 - 1800.
Perhaps Peter READDICK came from from the family of Casper READICK.
Perhaps Casper was his father or uncle.
I hope this information is useful to some list members.

Hi Bonni,
Casper as a nickname - I haven't a clue.It's a formal given name in
German-speaking portions of Europe.I got interested in the question of
the READICK / READDICK / REDDICK lines due to the given name of Peter
READDICK.There was an earlier, older Peter REDDICK who settled along
the Savannah River at Stony Bluff - on the line between Burke and
Screven Counties. That Peter REDDICK was the brother of my own
gggg-grandfather Nicholas REDDICK.These REDDICKs originated from North
Carolina, with four or five brothers moving into what became both Burke
and Screven Counties.
I've posted to the REDDICK list before about the possibility that the
READDICK family of Camden county might be descended from some of the
German-speaking Salzberger families that settled in Colonial Georgia
(which is where names like both Casper and Peter become interesting -
even John [Johanne] is so). There were multiple individuals of German
origin recorded as entering the colony with the surname 'RADICK' as
recorded by British immigration officials.I've speculated that
'RADICK' could have been an English rendering of what later was recorded
as 'READDICK' OR READICK.'
Run a search on the REDDICK and GASCREVE GenForum lists to see what
others have discussed about the REDDICKs of Screven County and the
READDICKs of Camden County.Just run the search on my name and you'll
see what topics I've been covering. Some of the folks with whom I've
been conversing are other descendants of Peter READDICK - your cousins.

Hey Bonni,
Send me the information that you have about Peter and John READDICK /
REDDICK.I would like to try to either connect them with or wholly
separate them from the REDDICK lines that appeared in Burke and Screven
Counties circa 1785.I already have (along with others) several
individuals named Peter and a John REDDICK (my ggg-grandfather) from the
Burke and Screven County areas.I suspect that your John and Peter are
a separeate line. But, I would like to view your findings / evidence so
as to compare them against what has been found about the REDDICK
lineages of Burke and Screven Counties.

Thanks for the article as I didn't have it.Where did it come from?
Maybe the Liberty Co. Records?I need the source of this data.

Hey Shirl,
I'm CCing your message and this reply of mine to several folks who

Then, second - the following URL takes you to the Marriages & Deaths
page for Liberty County.
This material was taken from the following resource:

The line appearing on the webpage is:

of Liberty Co., m. Liberty Co 10/9/1810 by Rev McVane
________________________________
The Peter READDICK of Camden County about whom this set of
correspondences revolved was born circa 1790 - 1800 / 1802 to a father
named John, according to Ivan (Bonni) Reddick. This would
place both this Peter and his father John much later in the lineage than
the Peter (born 1729) and his father Johann RADICK who you describe.
With Georgia only being settled beginning in 1733, then this
earlier Peter would have been born outside Georgia (probably in a German
state or Switzerland), and thus being a Salzburgher immigrant to Georgia
(maybe).
The later Peter READDICK of Camden County is described on the following
webpage:
A description of Peter READDICK's plantation and some of his family
appear in the following (taken from that webpage).
GEORGIA BROWN - Married ANDREW JACK READDICK/REDDICK
on
28 February 1854 - CCG Marriage Book B 1831-1880 p.
141.She probably died
sometime between 1857 & 1860. According to the 1860
CCG census, her first child
was born in 1855 and her second child was born in
1857 - she is not listed on this
census.(See Brown Lineage for children). No death
dates nor place of burial found.
Jack Readdick, as he was called, grew up on
"Readdick's Plantation" which belonged to
his father & mother, Peter Readdick and Allie Agnes
Wright. It was a large cotton
plantation located in the Sand Hills six miles north
of Burnt Fort on the north side of the
Satilla River near the Old Post Road ("Camden's
Challenge," by Marguerite Reddick
pages 52 & 53).On p. 455 Reddick says, "Peter
Readdick was the progenitor of all
the Camden County Readdicks...both spellings are
seen in Camden families."Andrew
Jack Readdick, a farmer, married 2nd to Caroline E.
Drury - CCG Marriage Book B p.
112."Camden County, GA Cemetery Location & Index,"
by Larry Durbin lists:A. J.
Readdick b. 11 April 1828 & d. 07 May 1900; and
Caroline E. Readdick b. 11
February 1839 & d. 03 July 1911- both buried at
Black Point Cemetery in CCG.

I believe that it would be helpful if Shirley and Bonni (Ivan) were to
share their respective sets and sources of information on the Peter &
John & Johann RADICK / READICK / READDICK / REDDICKs
of this likely line.

This info definitely links a "Peter" to Casper as his son. (Note the "F"
in the census for Peter in Camden County at the end of this message).
I did a little searching yesterday but didn't have time to send out what
I have found.I pulled up Casper Reddick on the Ancestry site and didn't
get anything so I went to FTM site and found I had the Early Georgia
Settlers disc, 516, Germans of Colonial Georgia, which FTM referred me to.I
found this.
Listed amont the German Early Settlers was:

I also found listed under RADICK Apollonia (Anna), Pal, t7, d (daughter
of
Johann (Egmont's list of Georgia inhabitants)(Pal was Palatines which
was
loosely applied to many German speaking emigrants.(t7 may apply to
Transport 7 which was the "Three Sisters")

On the 1790Reconstructed Census of Georgia for Chatham County I found:
Catherine Reddick (spelling had changed from RADICK to REDDICK)
Jacob Reddick
Casper Reddick
Salome Reddick
The above info seems to state Catherine dying in or about 1817 and shows
herto be the wife of "Peter".
Jacob & Salome must be her children as showing them above to be s & d of
Peter and Casper their grandfather.

Hey Mary Sue,
Well, this content is confusing to me (at the moment), but for portions
of the census data from 1820 and 1830.Those REDDICKs in Burke and Screven
Counties are all my relatives, with John REDDICK of Burke County being my
ggg-grandfather.The Peter REDDICK of Screven County for both 1820 &
1830 could either be:first) the Peter of the original five brothers (in 1820
census - he died in 1821); or second) his nephew Peter Nichols REDDICK for both 1820
and 1830 (his burial was described in the description of the Old Reddick
Cemetery posted by Dr. Ed Mulligan and myself).
I'm forwarding this reply to the others that I've been sending this
material to...Shirley Reddick should be able to extract some very useful
information about REDDICK geneology (and aid in separating out the various RADICK /
READICK / READDICK lines from the REDDICK lines that spread about further
inland).
Keep looking into this material.I would strongly suggest that you look
into the Bryan and Effingham records along with the Chatham and Liberty
records to discover more about the RADICK origins and dispersal.

Just wanted to share again the names of my Adelle Reddick's children.I
know sometimes naming patterns can help with the search.
William Frank Broward b: 5 SEP 1847 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida
Martha Ann Broward b: 1849 in Jacksonville, Fl.
Charles E. Broward b: 1851 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida
John Peyton Broward b: 12 JUN 1854 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida
Emma Broward b: 1856 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida
Ellen Broward b: 1857 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida
Preston Broward b: 1860 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida
Alva Broward b: 1862 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida
Adelle E. Broward b: 1863 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida
Walter Broward b: 1868 in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida
Adelle Reddick married my John E Broward ancestor. His father was
Charles E Broward, as you can see there is a son named after him.I feel strongly
that the William could be the name of Adelle's father, but I am unsure
ofthis.Notice also there is a Preston and Peyton. These are normally
surnames and two sons have these names.I have not noticed these as
being surnames in the Broward family I can only assume this may come out of
the Reddick line. Please note this in your search as you search for
Reddick.Do you see these names living around them as neighbors???????????
I have the Camden County census records from 1850-1920.
