Hello Ashworth Researchers. Please hang in here with me for a little history. It may save you a lot of time an lies concerning SPINDLETOP.
I have just completed a two year study of another spindletop claim for the HUMPHREY Family that has been in and out of the Texas and Federal Courts since the 1930's. This one concerned the estate of one William Pelham Humphrey who at one time owned 4000 acres on the now famous oil field. As much as I could find out, Spindletop is in the hands of the oil companies and the McFadden's, Weiss, and Kyle Land and Cattle Company of Beaumont and they have proved time and time again in court that they have a bust proof title to the Humphries League. The same is true for the other "owners" of spindletop. There are NO funds set aside for payment to anyone claiming title to any Spindletop land. ALL suits filed have been found for the oil and land title companies. The entire story was fabricated by lawers wanting to get rich from the pocketes of poor farmers across the southeast. Let me tell you that if you THINK you have a claim hire a lawyer that will represent you on a percent and not a fee. Everyone I have ever met that has relation from or even near Texas claims to have the same story.
Well that is my two cents worth on Spindletop. Check out the WEB for information under Humphrey/Humphries and even check this forum.
NOW !!! my real reason for invading your forum.. I have just stared researching the Ashworths for a friend of mine. She knows very little. Her dad's name is Jim/James 80 Years of age living in Gurly Alabama, her Grand dad's and great grandads name were supposed to be Sid/Sydney??? They were "Tennessee people". How's that for vague? Any help out there?
Best of luck to you all in your quest for your roots. Quite frankly I was beginning to think I was making a mistake by doing this project after two days of reading this forum.
And just because you didn't ask I give you my opinion. (Everyone has an opinion and everyone is entitled to their opinion) Mine is ---- IF YOU DON'T HAVE PROOF DON'T POST IT WITHOUT TELLING RESEARCHERS YOU DON'T. I have been doing this for quite a while and the number one road block is figuring out what is a true post and what is not. There is a difference in posting something for discussion and posting something that is supposed to be true without proof. Be prepared to share your sources. OK. I'm off my soap box.
If you can help me in my research please do.Thanks again and keep digging.
Terry Vickers
& may God bless you and yours.
