Charles Homer Record was born to Charles Douglas and Florence Beatrice(Kilgore) Record on August 28, 1919 and grew up during the Great Depression. He graduated from Melissa High School.
On July 24, 1937 he married Thelma Vandagriff in Athens, Texas. They were married for almost 62 years before she preceded him in death on June 10, 1999.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Second Class and was honorably discharged in 1945. For many years he was an automotive mechanic, and also taught mechanics in McKinney, Texas.
Raising chickens also kept him busy. At one time he had over 250 birds. For relaxation he loved to fish, especially for catfish. Friends and family will remember the many tales he had to tell.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; two daughters, Virginia Maye Wright and Margaret Dee Warren; and his brothers and sisters, William, Gerald, Sie, Frank, Dion, Johnny, Lillie, Floy, Roy, Jack and Edna.
Survivors include his four children: Barbara L. Willis and husband, Tommy of Clifton; Beatrice M. Record of Haughton, Louisiana; Betty A. Pearce and husband, Curtis of Clifton; Charles L. Record and wife, Velda of Whitney.
Eleven Grandchildren: Jenny Lynn, Marcus, Kenneth, Bennie, Hope, Cassandra, Judy, Sharon, Alton, Aaron and Shawn.
Eighteen great-grandchildren: Ashley, Allyssia, Kirstie, Mandie, Amanda, Christopher, Jessica June, Billy, Sabrina, Bennie III, Jacquilin, Julie, Penny, Ashley, Kindal, Christina, Adam and Nicholas.
One great-great granddaughter: Jordyn Raye, and caretaker, JoAnne Murphy.
