Daniel Cleveland Record 1925-2004
" Daniel Cleveland Record, 79, a 29-year resident of Springtown, passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at his home, surrounded by the loved ones closest to him throughout his long and blessed life.
Funeral: 3 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial: Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at White's Funeral Home.
Dan was born June 25, 1925, the last of 10 children born to Joseph Sian Record and Mary Ann "Molly" Record. He grew up on Fort Worth's North Side, a member of a large family with firm roots there.
Dan graduated from North Side High School in May 1943. A month later, shortly after his 18th birthday, he was on his way to boot camp, having joined the Navy. He served proudly with the Fighting Seabees in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged from the Navy Oct. 29, 1945. In 1946, he began working for Consolidated Vultee( later General Dynamics) and became a member of the International Association of Machinists Local 776. He worked as a dispatcher and shortage follow-up man and retired from General Dynamics in 1990. He was well known and beloved by all of his co-workers.
On February 17, 1951, Dan married the love of his life, the former Nella Jo Bradshaw. They were blessed with a wonderful life together that was made all the richer with the births of their daughters, Evelyn and Brenda. In August 1975, Dan and Nella Jo moved to their current residence on the outskirts of Springtown to enjoy the quiet peacefulness of country living.
Dan will be remembered for many things, but most of all for the immense love he had for his family. He and Nella Jo were always there to help when a family member was in need and always offered without being asked. Even as his health deteriorated over the last few years, Dan worried about the needs and welfare of his family members beyond his own. He loved going to church and in spite of his poor health, continued to go when he could.
Dan will be missed for the silent strength he exhibited by being the steady anchor for his family and for the sweet things he did for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who knew him as "Grandaddy."
Dan's family thanks all of the hospice workers with Main Street Home Health Care and other medical personnel in Azle who have helped care for him. Each and every one of them treated Dan as though he were a close family member. All of these people improved the quality of his life as he struggled with illness over the last few months and years.
He was predeceased by his mother and father and all of his siblings; brothers, Roy Record, W.P. "Dub" Record, Joe Frank "Butch" Record, Booker "Cotton" Record, Harry Record, Sr., and Reagin Record and sisters; Bertha Britt Harvison and Molly "Tuss" Jennings.
Survivors: Dedicated and loving spouse of 53 years, Nella Jo Record; daughters, Evelyn Smith and her husband, Steve of Fort Worth and Brenda Gil and her husband, Tim of Fort Worth; grandaughters, Stephanie Cruson and her husband, Chad of Fort Worth, Angie Moore and her husband, Casey of Keller and Lauren Smith of Fort Worth; grandson, Jeremy Gil of Fort Worth; and numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and close friends that are the treasures of a long life.
