Name: Recordant; Recorde'; Record

About 10 years ago or more, an attorney by name of Record practiced in Owego, NY. He insisted-to the Tioga County Historical Society @ Owego that the name of Record was first Recordant from Switzerland; then this family migrated to France; and then to England.

I consider my Record to be English; In England, we run into many variables of the name which are probably all true. So, it occurs that we are talking about more than one family with one basic family beginning. I believe a lot of names started in England originally when taxpayers were told to pick one family surname. This would have nothing to do with migrations originating from Switzerland which might be another separate group.
