Ed Recker obituary submitted
Ed Recker, 98, of Alton, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Plymouth Manor Care Center, LeMars.
Born July 25, 1908, in rural Faulkton, S.D., he was the son of Fred and Elizabeth Pranger Recker. He married Gertrude Hansen July 4, 1938, in Alton. She died April 1, 1975.
He grew up in Orient, S.D., where he received his education. He moved to Iowa during the Depression and worked for numerous farmers in the Alton area. Following marriage, the couple farmed near Remsen for several years, and then moved to a farm near Alton. He retired in the spring of 1995. He had been a resident of Plymouth Manor since Jan. 26, 2006. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Rosary Society.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Jean) Recker, LeMars, and Edward Jr. (Renae) Recker, Alton; six daughters, Mary Lou Bauler, LeMars, Colane Recker, Sioux City, Jeanette (George) Curry, Tulsa, Okla., Elaine Harriman, Laurens, Iowa, and Gayle (Chuck) Schmidt, Round Lake; one sister, Agnes “Tops” O’Drane, Lake Oswego; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic School Gym, Alton. There will be a 4:30 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.
The service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic School Gym, Alton, with the Rev. John Vakulskas officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Alton.
