Yes, use of the different pronunciations even by the same people is common. It is said that some think the REA-AH is rather uncouth and so have adopted the simpler RAY. My father always called himself REA-AH up in Cumberland and RAY down South - where people are more "couth"! You always have to spell it out at least twice before people latch on.
