Sorry for the long wait for reply - been on vacation with no computer. Will take me a bit to catch up.
Re the Forest Lake John - per the census I saw for 1850 and 1860 - the name was READON - no R. There were several families in that area with the same name and it is spelled without the R in all cases so it is not likely to be a misspelling. While it is fairly close, it is not likely that our John would have been born in Forest Lake but I have no proof such as birth record etc to prove that.
Re the civil war pension....I don't know whether our John served in the Civil War. The only military info I have is the enlistment record which I will send under separate email.
