Thank you again Gary. This is of great help, and it looks like we are related. Here is some more information.
As I mentioned, all my hard records in the States. It looks like my electronic database got corrupted, and I am missing some references to sources. But, I hope the following is helpful.
I think that in the Bedford County Courthouse there is a will proved on February 1, 1821, for Thomas Rea.The will makes reference to his children, which my database shows as Thomas Jr., Arthur, Jane, Martha, Mary Ann, George, James, William, and Agnes.Thomas Jr. was born in Ireland.I do not have a place of birth for the other children or Thomas Sr.
The 1800 Census for Bedford Township, Bedford County, Pa shows a Thomas Rhea with the following household, and I believe that this is the household of Thomas Sr.
1 Male 45+
1 Male 26-45
2 Male 16-26
1 Male 0-10
1 Female45+
1 Female 16-26
2 Female 10-16
1810 Census for Bedford Township shows Thomas Rea with the following household, and I believe this is this household of Thomas Sr.
1 Male 45+
2 Male 26-45
1 Male 16-26
1 Female45+
2 Female 16-26
I believe that Thomas Rea Sr.'s son, James, appears in the 1820 and 1830 census as follows:
1820 Census--Bedford Township, Bedford County, Pa.--James Rea
1 Male 26-44
1 Female45+
1 Female 16-26
1830 Census--Bedford Township, Bedford County, Pa.--James Rhea
1 Male 30-40
1 Male 0-05
1 Female20-30
1 Female 15-20
1 Female10-15
1 Female 05-10
1 Female 0-05
I believe that this James Rea is the same James Rea who appears in the Bedford County Pennsylvania Archives, Volume 6 as having married Mary Anderson.Mary Anderson Rea died in 1856 in Bedford. This James Rea died 1874 according to the Register of Deaths, Presbyterian Church, Bedford, Pa.This couple is buried in the old Presbyterian Church cememetery in Bedford.
One of the children of this James Rea was also a James Rea.I had thought that he was James Rea, Jr. who married Mary Ann Pritchard, a sister of my ancestor James Pritchard. However, he could be your James A. Rea in which case I need to resume looking for the father of James Rea, Jr.James Rea, Jr. was born on July 22, 1825, and died on November 22, 1897, in Illinois. After they married in Richland County, Ohio, they moved to Bedford County, Pa.Between 1860 and 1865, they moved to Illinois, according to transcripts of the Pritchard family provided by Sherri Perkins of Ohio, a copy of a transcribed letter provided by Gayle Pritchard of Ohio, and "Descendants of Charles and Ann (Newton) Pritchard" by Maxine Kinton.
I believe that Thomas Rea Sr.'s son, George, is the George Rea who immigrated to Richland County, Ohio with the Pritchards, Swendalls and some others who appeared in the Bedford County census. This George's niece--Martha Rea--married my ancestor William Pritchard. In a letter dated November 23, 1832, from Cumberland Valley (copy sent to my father from Maxine Kinton of Ohio), Arthur Rea (son of the Arthur Rea above) wrote to his sister, Martha Pritchard in Newville, Richland County, Ohio."..Aunt Carsons and Ascineth are with us...Jane Rea has the cholora morbus...The articles of the estate of Aunt Mary Ann belonging to uncle George & William are in the possession of uncle Thomas and can be hadany time they send for them...with regards to the fate of Johns letters I am unable to say anything..."
I believe that the Arthur Rea who was the son of Thomas Rea, Sr. appeared in the 1800 and 1810 census as follows:
1800 Census--Bedford Township, Bedford County, Pa--Arthur Rhea
1 Male 26-45
1 Male 0-10
1 Female 26-45
1 Female 16-26
1 Female0-10
1810 Census--Bedford Township, Bedford County, Pa.--Arthur Rea
1 Male 26-45
2 Male 0-10
1 Female 26-45
1 Female 16-26
1 Female 10-16
1 Female0-10
I show the children of this Arthur Rea as one unknown daughter, Katherine Rea, Arthur Rea, Martha Rea, and George Rea.
I show this George Rea, son of Arthur Rea, as having died in 1865.He is buried in the United Presbyterian Church Graveyard, Newville, Newton Township, Cumberland County, Pa.I show his children as Sarah Ann, Mary Jane, William, Nancy Elizabeth, James D., George Washington, and John, but my information could be in error. The Pritchards received letters from at least this James D, George, and John. For example, in a letter dated 1/21/1861 from Newville, Pa. (transcribed copy provided to me by Gayle Pritchard of Ohio), John Rea wrote to his cousin J. N. Pritchard in Fort Randal, Dacotah Ter."...Bell and Kate are well I think.I have not troubled the ladies much this winter.I think Tom and Mary Logan will be married soon...I helped to eat but one turkey and tat at Aunt Katherna Dunlaps..We have got moved which I wrote before if you would come to our new house in Newville now you would hardly know where to find us.We now live 1 mile above Uncle John Dunlap's on the Pike...Jim and Lib are doing well Lib in particular...I will inform Bell that you are well but I suppose she knows that for I rather guess there is some communications going on..."
I have not yet figured out the connection to all the names mentioned in the various letters, and perhaps you might recognize some names or nicknames that you are familiar with.Any additional information you have would be much appreciated.
Dave
