I've already replied privately to Maurice, but maybe I can clear up a few of the references he makes. I believe Maurice was quoting from a post on an ancestry message board http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.rhea/489/mb.ashx Currently, there are five members of the Rea DNA surname project that form a closely matching group [surnames: REA (2), RAY (1), RHEA (2)]. We five have had at least 25 markers analyzed. Taken pairwise, we match on either 24/25, 25/25, or 35/37, depending on which pairs are compared. There are several other FTDNA Rea project members who match some of us on 11/12 or 12/12 markers, but they either haven't responded or provided enough ancestral information to tell if they may also be part of this group. Of the five mentioned above, the two members with the surname REA have as their most recent common ancestor William Collings REA (1752-1856). He is associated with some Reas who lived in Henry Co, VA. The John Rea/Ray/Rhea being referred to is said to have married a Hannah Hastey. Several worldconnect trees show the putative lineage. For example, http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=jrea&id=I0046 http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=chenae&id=I09715 Hope that this clears things up a bit. -- Roger Ray Notify Administrator about this message?
