Ms Strole, Thank you for your inquiry. You are correct that we are studying the same family line. My son-in-law is a descendant of Moses Raymer through his son Charles Augustus. I suspect you are ahead of me in researching ancestors of Moses, so you probably already have learned that some individuals involved in research into the Raymer and allied families can be so contentious as to cross over into rudeness. Unfortunately, I can offer you no document with regard to Moses' parentage. You have probably run into all the same claims I have--the three brothers in Pennsylvania, one of whom is Michael's father, etc. I have only the 1810 census, where Michael is near Caleb Dove (who has a descendant who marries a descendant of Moses), and near Jacob Bost (reputedly Margaret's father), and near George Bost. And I have the 1820 census, when Michael is next to the young Paul Bost, and Michael appears to have 3 daughters and a son 10-15, who could be Moses, as he would have been 12 at that time. There are also some references to this family in the book THE HERITAGE OF IREDELL COUNTY, NC. At present, my attitude is that evidence that Michael is Moses' father is lacking, but I have not seen any evidence indicating that Michael is not Moses' father. I am surprised that you used an indefinite birth year for Moses, because you are certainly aware of the specific dates on his headstone, having posted a photograph of Moses on his FindAGrave memorial. OR, do you have reason to doubt the accuracy of the dates on his headstone? If you are interested in information about the descendants of Moses' son Charles Augustus, feel free to contact me directly by e-mail. JHA
