Hi Vicki,
I came across your posting, and I'm almost certain I'm connected to this Raffield/Rayfield family that came from Tennessee. My Raffield roots came from Cherryville, NC., which is in Gaston County. Gaston was formed from Lincoln County.
My gg-grandfather was John Philip Raffield. He's in the 1880 Census in Gastonia, with his parents, Franklin and Sarah Raffield; 13 years old.
I've been told that Franklin Raffield was the son of John Raffiel. Have you had any luck with John and Elizabeth's line? I would like to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Robin Raffield Moore
